The Hyakujushi Research Institute believes that the proper handling and protection of personal information is fundamental to its business activities. We shall acquire personal information in a lawful and fair manner.
We may, for example, obtain personal information from the following sources.

Examples of information sources

  • In cases where personal information is provided directly through documents to be filled in and submitted by customers, such as membership application forms and lecture application forms (submission of documents such as application forms by the customer or data input to the web or other screens by the customer)
  • Cases in which personal information is obtained in connection with surveys or research conducted by the Firm, including questionnaires and interviews.

2.Purpose of Use of Personal Information

In addition, we will endeavor to limit the purpose of use of personal information according to the situation in which it is obtained, for example, when responding to various questionnaires, etc., we will use the information only for the purpose of tabulating the questionnaires.

(1) Purpose of Use of Personal Information
In accordance with the Act on the Protection of Personal Information (Act No. 57 of 2003), we will handle the personal information of our customers (excluding specific personal information) within the scope necessary to achieve the following business operations and purposes of use.

Description of business

  1. Research and study of the local economy, industry, and regional trends, and collection and provision of materials and information
  2. Publication of journals and other publications
  3. Holding of lectures, seminars, study groups, etc., commissioning and cooperation in surveys and research, and dispatch of lecturers
  4. Mediation of correspondence courses, and browsing and lending of books and materials
  5. Other projects necessary to accomplish the above projects (including projects to be implemented in the future)

Purpose of use

  3. To enhance the contents of publications such as journals and to deliver them promptly
  4. To enhance the content and smooth operation of various lectures, seminars, study groups, dispatch of lecturers, etc.
  5. To appropriately carry out the entrusted work in cases where all or part of the processing of personal information is entrusted by other businesses, etc.
  6. To exercise rights and fulfill obligations under various contracts and laws.
  7. To make various proposals regarding the Firm’s business and services, etc. via the Internet, direct mail, telephone, etc.
  8. To make various proposals regarding the products, services, etc. of partner companies, etc.
  9. To terminate various transactions and to manage after the termination of transactions
  10. To manage and operate the membership system of the corporation
  11. To perform other transactions with customers in an appropriate and smooth manner


(2) Purpose of Use of Specified Personal Information
In accordance with the Act on the Use of Numbers to Identify Specific Individuals in Administrative Procedures (Act No. 27 of 2013), etc., we will use personal information including personal numbers (specified personal information) in the preparation of legal documents pursuant to laws and regulations such as payment statements.
 We may use or provide personal information to a third party for purposes other than the aforementioned when it is necessary for the protection of human life, body, or property, and when we have the consent of the customer or when it is difficult to obtain the consent of the customer.

3.Handling of Personal Information
We will handle personal information obtained by us within the scope necessary to achieve the purposes of use notified to us in accordance with laws and regulations.
We will stop using personal information for the purpose of sending direct mail or soliciting by telephone if the person in question requests us to do so.

4.Provision of Personal Information to Third Parties
We will not disclose or provide the personal information we have obtained to any third party, unless we have received the consent of the customer. However, the following cases are excluded.

When required by law

  • When it is necessary to protect the life, body, or property of an individual and it is difficult to obtain the consent of the customer.
  • When it is particularly necessary to improve public health or promote the sound growth of children, and it is difficult to obtain the consent of the person concerned.
  • When it is necessary to cooperate with a national agency, a local government, or a person or organization entrusted by either of the foregoing in executing affairs prescribed by laws and regulations, and obtaining the consent of the individual concerned is likely to impede the execution of such affairs.

5.Security Management of Personal Information

We will take appropriate and reasonable level of security control measures to prevent loss, destruction, falsification, leakage, etc. of personal information. In the event that we outsource the handling of personal information to a third party, we will supervise the third party to ensure the safe management of personal information.

We will respond sincerely to requests for disclosure, etc. of personal information held by customers in accordance with laws and regulations.
